Lds.org has on its front page an article about the Mountain Meadows Massacre. I’m quite surprised to see it get such a prominent place.
I haven’t read it, nor do I know the details well enough to know if it’s historically accurate or just a faith promoting version of events.
It looks like the standard Mormon take on events. The whole thing doesn’t surprise me, though- I always knew about Mountain Meadows growing up in the Church (from the Church’s perspective, of course). The LDS church certainly acknowledges it happened. the question is just one of who is responsibility.
And with the focus goven to Mountain Meadows in the documentary, and the upcoming Spetember Dawn movie, it doesn’t surprise me at all that the Church would want to get tis side of the story out there.
I read it. Does a decent job of taking all of the presentism out of the current slew of finger-pointing.
